Once a player registers for a Minor League Pickleball event, their rating is “locked” and their DUPR increasing or decreasing will not impact their team’s aggregate or division placement. To be eligible for the Championship Cup, at least 2 of the 4 players have to have an established rating in DUPR. If a player does not have a rating the average of your teammate’s rating will be used to determine your starting rating and place you in the appropriate MiLP and Doubles division.
MiLP FORMAT:
Minor League Pickleball is an innovative team competition where teams of 4 players (2 women and 2 men) compete against each other in an engaging format, with twists on traditional match-ups and scoring for games, matches, and tiebreakers. Teams compete against each other in Matches using the MLPlay™ format:
MLPlay™ is an ingenious gameplay format that brings men and women together on a level playing court. In the MLPlay™ format team matches are composed of four 21-point games, one women’s doubles, a men’s doubles, and the final two games consisting of mixed doubles. If both teams are tied at 2-2 after the 4 games are played, they’ll go to a Dreambreaker™! In a Dreambreaker™ one person from each team plays singles against the other team’s player, switching players every four rallies until someone gets to 21 and wins by two points.
Scoring: Rally (Games to 21 win by 2 points) (You have to score on your serve to win)
DOUBLES FORMAT:
When deciding which bracket to register for, combine you and your partner’s rating. If your rating total is under 7, then you register for DUPR 7. Example: Your rating is 3.65 and your partner’s rating is 3.3 your team rating is 6.95. Therefore, you register for DUPR 7.
You do NOT need a rating to register. If you do not have a rating when you register, your rating will be considered half of what the DUPR bracket you registered for. Example: If you register for DUPR 9, PBC will consider your rating 4.5. Therefore, your partner will need to have a rating of 4.5 or less.
Round Robin into bracket. All teams are scheduled for a minimum of 5 games. All scores will be entered into DUPR. The bracket will be double elimination.
Scoring Format: Rally (Games to 21 win by 2 points) (You have to score on your serve to win)
Round Robin: Number of games will be determined by the number of teams in your Pool.
Bracket: Matches consist of a best of 3 game format. Single elimination. If you lose in the Semi Finals you advance to the Bronze medal match (best of 3).
Skill levels may be combined during the Round Robin portion and then split into 2 brackets based on the standings from the Round Robin. Both brackets will be treated separately and have their own medalist. Depending on the number of registered players/teams in each event, we will combine events either based on skill or age to provide the best overall playing experience, given the circumstances.
Teams will be placed into pools based on their team rating (combine you and your partner’s rating). If you do NOT have a DUPR rating you will be given a rating in our tournament software based on the bracket you registered for. Example: If you register for DUPR 7, and don’t have a DUPR, we will use 3.5 when calculating your team rating.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP FORMAT:
Earn points for your MiLP team by participating in the gender doubles portion of the event. You do NOT have to play doubles with a member of you MiLP team. To give your team the best chance to win the State Championship Cup, all four members should participate in doubles.
